Gingko Nuts

When earth opened up
and belched lava
the molten flow
blanketed the land
where forests stood
The trees
green and wet
No oxygen present
to permit them to burn

So they turned to stone.

She cradled the weight
as if her own
He carried the stone
as if his own

everywhere she taught
the weight of stone
as if her own
everywhere he taught
the weight of lift
as if his own

No oxygen present
to permit them to burn

So they turned to stone.

the earth opened up
and belched lava
lifting the stone in heat
a wet blanket fell

as if from nowhere

steam arose

as if from nowhere

everywhere
we are taught
the trees
green and wet
